Sharsta Averyhardt qualifys for the 2010 Ladies US Open at Oakmont Country Club



2007 Midwest Golf Association College Women's Champion Sharsta Averyhardt of Flint, MI and a former member of the Jackson State Golf Team has reached another milestone in her early professional career by qualifying for the 2010 Ladies US Open.  This years National Championship will be held at the Oakmont Country Club in PA. You go girl, we are all very proud of you.

Tony Houston of Detroit wins 4th Annual Swing Into Spring Open.



Detroiter Tony Houston captures his 4th Championship at the 4th Annual Swing Into Spring Open held the first week in March in Orlando, FL.  Houston posted rounds of 75 - 82 - 82 for a 238 Total for the 54 Hole tournament to beat Fred Jones of New York by 15 strokes.



Other Division Winners.  Jerry Hopkins of Detroit won the Senior Men's Division, Pack Craig of Indianapolis, IN nosed out Lennell Roberts of Pine Mountain, GA to win the Super Senior Division and Charlie Ford of LaGrange, GA won the Golden Senior Division.

The Midwest Golf Association would like to Congratulate Mark Ingram, Jr. of the University of Alabama on winning the 2009 Heisman Trophy.  Mark played in our National Junior Golf Championship and won the Junior Boys 12 - 13 year old flight in 2002.

2010 Annual Meeting



The 2010 Annual Meeting and Convention will be held in Chicago, IL  on Saturday and Sunday November 6 & 7.  The Chicago Womens Golf Club one  of the original member clubs of the Midwest Golf Association will host the  60th Anniversary Meeting.



All members should plan to attend this historical meeting and enjoy a full filled weekend in the 2nd City of the United States.  More details to follow.









2009 / 10  Annual Scholarship



The 2009 / 10 Annual Midwest Golf Youth Foundation Scholarship was  awarded to Miss Chanel Beebe of Detroit, MI.  Miss Beebe graduated from Renaissance High School in Detroit with a 3.87 GPA.  She is presently enrolled at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor studying pre – engineering.

2010 PGA National Junior Championship



The PGA National Junior Championship has changed locations for 2010.  It will be played at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, IN the first week in August. Midwest Golf Association representatives will be Tiana Jones of Alliance, OH and Darryl Smith II of Dayton, OH



The Midwest Golf Association’s National Junior Golf Championships Junior Boy and Junior Girl winners will once again present the Midwest Golf Association at the 2011 PGA National Championship.



 








2010 Tournament Media Guide Program Book



The Midwest Golf Association will once again publish a program book in conjunction with its 55th Annual National Junior Golf Championship.  Ads are being sold now, see a member for details. The 2010 Tournament Media Guide Program will be printed in Full Color and Black & White Ads.  Ads space is also being reserved for player pictures and profiles. Cost $40.









New Website



The Midwest Golf Association new website is now up and operating. View the website at www. midwestgolf.net  Tabs for your review include the President’s Message, the 2010 Tournament Schedule, Junior Golf, About Us, 2009 Tournament Results, Member Clubs and Education.  The Members Birthday Tab is now active. Members celebrating birthdays will now be posted on the Midwest Golf Association’s webpage labeled  BIRTHDAYS.

Sharsta Averyhardt of  Flint, MI / Jackson State won her first professional golf tournament in Florida this past season.  Congratulations and continue the good work from the Officers, Member Clubs and Individual Members of the Midwest Golf Association.







Jamila Johnson - Appointment



The University of Maryland Eastern Shore recently appointed former Detroiter and Midwest  Golf Association Junior Golfer Jamila Johnson as its Golf Teams Head Coach.  Miss Johnson a graduate of Jackson State University is the first female to hold such a position.  Congratulations!!!!!

Other Meeting News

The Midwest Golf Association adopted a new slogan for 2010. Say NO to DrugsYES to Education and Golf“.



The new slogan will appear on all promotional items including the Member Only Bag Tags and 2010 / 2011 USGA Rule Books which all members will receive in the mail in January.



Entry Fee for the 2010 Midwest Golf Association National Junior Golf Championship will increase $10.00 to offset the increase in green fees and dinners at Cracker Barrel.



Non Member Surcharge will remain at $20.00 per player.



The Holiday Inn – Lima is now the Howard Johnson Lima.  Nothing has changed except the name.  Prices remain the same and the staff that has treated us so well over the years will remain in place.



For those Marriott Reward Members, we have added the Marriott Courtyard as our backup hotel.  Room prices are the same as the Howard Johnson, $89.00 per night.  Call 419-222-9000.
